The Institution of Engineers (India) in the oldest and largest multi disciplinary professional body.
It encompasses 15 engineering disciplines providing engineers a global platform for sharing professional knowledge.
IE(I) was established in the year 1920, with its headquarter at Kolkatta.
Now it is operating through its 120 centres located across the country and 5 centers in overseas. IE (I) has membership strength of above 0.8 Million.
IE(I) has lilateral agreements with about 31 international bodies and membership in 8 international bodies of the developed nations across the globe.
In 1935, IE(I) was incorporated by Royal Charter and it is the only professional body in India which has been accorded this prestigious honour.
On 13 September 2017, IE (I) has completed 97 years of glorious services towards Engineering Advancement for Nation Building. It provides a vast array of technical, professional and supporting services to the Government, Industries, Academic and the Engineering fraternity. Now it has steeped up into 98th year of continuing service.
IE(I) is recognized as a scientific and Research organization (SIRO) by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Ministry of Science and Technology, G.O.I.
IE(I) promotes the cause of Research and Development by providing Grant-in-Aid support to under graduate, post graduate students and phd scholars of Engineering institutions and universities.
IE(I) Conducts Section A & B Examinations in various engineering disciplines (AMIE Examination) equivalent to Degree in appropriate field of Engineering of recognized Universities of India by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, G.O.I. Every year about 90,000 students appear for these exams.
IE(I) regularly publishes peer reviewed international Journal in five series, viz. Series A, Series B, Series C, Series D, Series E, covering 15 engineering disciplines.
